Queer Open Mic #4 feat. Lynn Breedlove

LGBTQ Open Mic Santa Fe, NM

LGBTQ Open Mic Santa Fe, NM

Santa Fe Queer and Trans* Open Mic (SFQTOM) is a radical performance space for queer, trans*, and gender-creative community. Our gatherings are fun, sexy, anti-racist, and survivor-friendly.

We encourage performers to take risks, explore edges, and bring their fierce and tender selves to the space. Performance may include poetry, prose, music, dance, comedy, spoken word, theatre, or movement.

*ABOUT THE FEATURE PERFORMER*
The feature at SFQTOM #4 will be legendary queer punk icon Lynnee Breedlove! Lynnee will be reading from his new book, 45 Thought Crimes, and sticking around for a Q&A afterwards. There will also be a few open mic slots – see “Deets about performing” section below.

Lynn “Lynnee” Breedlove is the author of the novel Godspeed, was the singer for the band Tribe 8, and was the writer/performer of Lynnee Breedlove’s One Freak Show, a comic solo show on gender and the ensuing book, which won the 2010 Lambda Literary Award in the transgender category. He is the entrepreneurial founder of Homobiles, the indie non-profit startup that’s a ride service for the LGBTIQQ community and its allies, which, along with his creative work, won him the 2012 Harvey Milk LGBT Club Award for Activism. www.lynnbreedlove.com

45 Thought Crimes is spirituality for skeptics, in the body of the beloved. It’s church at a punk show, a letter to bees, a map in a crisis, a guidebook to histories, to love in a riot. Compassionate table flipping, commitment to the tactile, a swipe at the inevitable. Arrows to roses, plowshares to swords, strangers welcomed as life flies by. It’s tablature for voice, chords they said you couldn’t sing, the sound of swinging at fascists while kissing the one you love.

*DEETS ABOUT PERFORMING*
At SFQTOM #4 there will be 6 open mic slots which we fill on a first-come-first-serve basis. Repeat performers and new performers are both welcome to sign up!

Open mic’ers have 5 minutes of performance time, and we will gently interrupt people whose performances go over 5 minutes in order to make sure there’s enough time for everyone who is signed up to share.

*TRIGGER WARNINGS*
We encourage performers to use trigger warnings for potentially re-retraumatizing content such as graphic depictions of sexual abuse, self harm, hate crimes, war, domestic violence, etc. However, because we don’t screen content beforehand, we cannot guarantee to the audience that all performances will come with a warning.

*ANTI-OPPRESSION VALUES*
Santa Fe Queer & Trans* Open Mic seeks to create a space that is anti-racist, survivor-friendly, and body-positive and which does not perpetuate oppression of marginalized groups. Therefore, we have a gentle but firm call-in policy. If a performance includes oppressive elements or ideologies (racism, classism, ableism, fatphobia, etc) we’ll signal for the performer to wrap up, will apologize to anyone harmed by the work, and will follow up with the performer privately to help them understand why we interrupted their piece.

We are excited to see what everyone will bring to share! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us via Facebook message or SFQTOpenMic@gmail.com. See you there!
